RESUMO

Prussian blue analogues (PBAs) are regarded as promising cathode materials for ammonium-ion batteries (AIBs) because of their low cost and superb theoretical capacity. However, its inherently poor conductivity and structural collapse can significantly limit the enhancement of rate property and cycling stability. In this work, Berlin Green (BG) electrode materials with similar wool-like clusters were constructed by direct precipitation method to accelerate the kinetic, which realizes outstanding cycling stability. Berlin Green with the appropriate amount of iron (BG-2) has a fast ion transport channel, enhanced structure stability, highly reversible insertion/extraction of NH4+, and fine electrochemical reaction activity. Benefiting from the unique architecture and component, the BG-2 electrode shows an excellent rate performance with a discharge/charge specific capacity of 60.1/59.3 mAh g-1 at 5 A g-1. Even at 5 A g-1, BG-2 exhibits remarkable cycling stability with an initial discharge capacity of 59.5 mAh g-1 and a capacity retention rate of approximately 76% after 30,000 cycles. The BG-2 reveals exceedingly good electrochemical reversibility during the process of NH4+ (de)insertion. BG materials indicate huge potential as a cathode material for the next generation of high-performance aqueous batteries.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Eriophyoid mites (Eriophyoidea) are among the largest groups in the Acariformes; they are strictly phytophagous. The higher-level phylogeny of eriophyoid mites, however, remains unresolved due to the limited number of available morphological characters-some of them are homoplastic. Nevertheless, the eriophyoid mites sequenced to date showed highly variable mitochondrial (mt) gene orders, which could potentially be useful for resolving the higher-level phylogenetic relationships. RESULTS: Here, we sequenced and compared the complete mt genomes of 153 eriophyoid mite species, which showed 54 patterns of rearranged mt gene orders relative to that of the hypothetical ancestor of arthropods. The shared derived mt gene clusters support the monophyly of eriophyoid mites (Eriophyoidea) as a whole and the monophylies of six clades within Eriophyoidea. These monophyletic groups and their relationships were largely supported in the phylogenetic trees inferred from mt genome sequences as well. Our molecular dating results showed that Eriophyoidea originated in the Triassic and diversified in the Cretaceous, coinciding with the diversification of angiosperms. CONCLUSIONS: This study reveals multiple molecular synapomorphies (i.e. shared derived mt gene clusters) at different levels (i.e. family, subfamily or tribe level) from the complete mt genomes of 153 eriophyoid mite species. We demonstrated the use of derived mt gene clusters in unveiling the higher-level phylogeny of eriophyoid mites, and underlines the origin of these mites and their co-diversification with angiosperms.

RESUMO

The present study evaluated the potential of endogenous enzymes and probiotics in transforming bioactive metabolites to reduce the purgative effect and improve the functional activity of Cassiae Semen and verified and revealed the biotransformation effect of endogenous enzymes. Although probiotics, especially Lactobacillus rhamnosus, exerted the transformation effect, the endogenous enzymes proved to be more effective in transforming the components of Cassiae Semen. After biotransformation by endogenous enzymes for 12 h, the levels of six anthraquinones in Cassiae Semen increased by at least 2.98-fold, and free anthraquinones, total phenolics, and antioxidant activity also showed significant improvement, accompanied by an 82.2% reduction in combined anthraquinones responsible for the purgative effect of Cassiae Semen. Further metabolomic analysis revealed that the biotransformation effect of endogenous enzymes on the bioactive metabolites of Cassiae Semen was complex and diverse, and the biotransformation of quinones and flavonoids was particularly prominent and occurred by three primary mechanisms, hydrolyzation, methylation, and dimerization, might under the action of glycosyl hydrolases, SAM-dependent methyltransferases, and CYP450s. Accordingly, biotransformation by endogenous enzymes emerges as a mild, economical, food safety risk-free, and effective strategy to modify Cassiae Semen into an excellent functional food.

RESUMO

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a common liver disease with a prevalence of up to 25%; it not only adversely affects human health but also aggravates the economic burden of society. An increasing number of studies have suggested that the occurrence of chronic noncommunicable diseases is affected by both environmental exposures and genetic factors. Research has also shown that environmental pollution may increase the risk of MAFLD and promote its occurrence and development. However, the relationship between these concepts, as well as the underlying exposure effects and mechanism, remains incompletely understood. Lipidomics, a branch of metabolomics that studies lipid disorders, can help researchers investigate abnormal lipid metabolites in various disease states. Lipidome-exposome wide association studies are a promising paradigm for investigating the health effects of cumulative environmental exposures on biological responses, and could provide new ideas for determining the associations between metabolic and lipid changes and disease risk caused by chemical-pollutant exposure. Hence, in this study, targeted exposomics and nontargeted lipidomics studies based on ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) and ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-HRMS) were used to characterize exogenous chemical pollutants and endogenous lipid metabolites in the sera of patients with MAFLD and healthy subjects. The results demonstrated that fipronil sulfone, malathion dicarboxylic acid, and monocyclohexyl phthalate may be positively associated with the disease risk of patients diagnosed as simple fatty liver disease (hereafter referred to as MAFLD(0)). Moreover, fipronil sulfone, acesulfame potassium, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorononanoic acid (PFNA), perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnDA), 4-hydroxybenzophenone, and 3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxybenzoic acid (DBPOB) may be positively associated with the disease risk of patients diagnosed as fatty liver complicated by single or multiple metabolic disorders. Association analysis was carried out to explore the lipid metabolites induced by chemical residues. Triglyceride (TG) and diglyceride (DG) were significantly increased in MAFLD and MAFLD(0). The numbers of carbons of significantly changed DGs and TGs were mainly in the ranges of 32-40 and 35-60, respectively, and both were mainly characterized by changes in polyunsaturated lipids. Most of the lipid-effect markers were positively correlated with chemical residues and associated with increased disease risk. Our research provides a scientific basis for studies on the association and mechanism between serum chemical-pollutant residues and disease outcomes.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: We aimed to systematically assess the methodological quality and clinical potential application of published magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics studies about endometrial cancer (EC). METHODS: Studies of EC radiomics analyses published between 1 January 2000 and 19 March 2023 were extracted, and their methodological quality was evaluated using the radiomics quality score (RQS) and Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 (QUADAS-2). Pairwise correlation analyses and separate meta-analyses of studies exploring differential diagnoses and risk prediction were also performed. RESULTS: Forty-five studies involving 3 aims were included. The mean RQS was 13.77 (range: 9-22.5); publication bias was observed in the areas of 'index test' and 'flow and timing'. A high RQS was significantly associated with therapy selection-aimed studies, low QUADAS-2 risk, recent publication year, and high-performance metrics. Raw data from 6 differential diagnosis and 34 risk prediction models were subjected to meta-analysis, revealing diagnostic odds ratios of 23.81 (95% confidence interval [CI] 8.48-66.83) and 18.23 (95% CI 13.68-24.29), respectively. CONCLUSION: The methodological quality of radiomics studies involving patients with EC is unsatisfactory. However, MRI-based radiomics analyses showed promising utility in terms of differential diagnosis and risk prediction.

RESUMO

The occurrence and development of human diseases are influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. Research models that describe disease occurrence only from the perspective of genetics present certain limitations. In recent years, effects of environment factors on the occurrence and development of diseases have attracted extensive attentions. Exposomics focuses on the measurement of all exposure factors in an individual's life and how these factors are related to disease development. Exposomics provides new ideas to promote studies on the relationship between human health and environmental factors. Environmental exposures are characterized with different physical and chemical properties, as well as very low concentrations in vivo, which contribute great challenges in the comprehensive measurement of chemical residues in the human body. Chromatography-mass spectrometry-based technologies combine the high-efficiency separation ability of chromatography with the high resolution and sensitive detection characteristics of mass spectrometry; the combination of these techniques can achieve the high-coverage, high-throughput, and sensitive detection of environmental exposures, thus providing a powerful tool for measuring chemical exposures. Exposomics-analysis methods based on chromatography-mass spectrometry mainly include targeted quantitative analysis, suspect screening, and non-targeted screening. To explore the relationship between environmental exposure and the occurrence and development of diseases, researchers have developed research paradigms, including exposome wide association study, mixed-exposure study, exposomics and multi-omics (genome, transcriptome, proteome, metabolome)-association study, and so on. The emergence of these methods has brought about unprecedented developments in exposomics studies. In this manuscript, analytical methods based on chromatography-mass spectrometry, exposomics research paradigms, and their relevant prospects are reviewed.

RESUMO

PURPOSE: This meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the performance of the Injury Severity Score (ISS), Trauma and Injury Severity Score (TRISS), and the Geriatric Trauma Outcome Score (GTOS) in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients. METHODS: The MEDLINE, Web of Science, and EMBASE databases were searched for studies published from January 2008 to October 2023. Studies assessing the performance of the ISS, TRISS, or GTOS in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients (over 60 years old) and reporting data for the analysis of the pooled area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) and the hierarchical summary receiver operating characteristic curve (HSROC) were included. Studies that were not conducted in a group of geriatric patients, did not consider mortality as the outcome variable, or had incomplete data were excluded. The Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP) Clinical Prediction Rule Checklist was utilized to assess the risk of bias in included studies. STATA 16.0. was used for the AUROC analysis and HSROC analysis. RESULTS: Nineteen studies involving 118,761 geriatric trauma patients were included. The pooled AUROC of the TRISS (AUC = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.77-0.87) was higher than ISS (AUC = 0.74, 95% CI: 0.71-0.79) and GTOS (AUC = 0.80, 95%CI: 0.77-0.83). The diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) calculated from HSROC curves also suggested that the TRISS (DOR = 21.5) had a better performance in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients than the ISS (DOR = 6.27) and GTOS (DOR = 4.76). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis suggested that the TRISS showed better accuracy and performance in predicting mortality in geriatric trauma patients than the ISS and GTOS.

RESUMO

An unprescribed nortriterpenoid with an aromatic E ring, uncanortriterpenoid A (1), together with fourteen known triterpenoids (2-15), were isolated from the hook-bearing stems of Uncaria rhynchophylla Miq. Based on extensive spectroscopic analyses, the NMR data of 2, 5, and 10 in CD3OD were assigned for the first time, and the wrongly assigned δC of C-27 and C-29 of 2 were revised. Among the known compounds, 7, 13, and 15 were isolated from this species for the first time, and 15 represents the first lanostane triterpenoid bearing an extra methylidene at C-24 for the Rubiaceae family. Additionally, compounds 6 and 14 exhibited moderate ferroptosis inhibitory activity, with an EC50 value of 14.74 ± 0.20 µM for 6 and 23.11 ± 1.31 µM for 14.

RESUMO

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of human cancers. Previous studies have highlighted the role of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) in modulating the stemness of CSCs. In our investigation, we identified an upregulation of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 in CSCs. The enforced expression of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 promotes tumorigenesis and self-renewal in pancreatic cancer CSCs. Conversely, the knockdown of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 inhibits tumorigenesis and self-renewal in pancreatic cancer CSCs. Furthermore, our findings reveal that lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 enhances self-renewal and tumorigenesis in pancreatic cancer CSCs by up-regulating osteopontin/secreted phosphoprotein 1(SPP1) and acting as a ceRNA to sponge miR-570-3p in pancreatic cancer (PC) CSCs. Additionally, lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 depleted pancreatic cancer cells exhibit heightened sensitivity to 5-FU-indued cell growth inhibition and apoptosis. Analysis of patient-derived xenografts (PDX) indicates that a low level of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 may serve as a predictor of 5-FU benefits in PC patients. Moreover, the introduction of SPP1 can reverse the sensitivity of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1-knockdown PC cells to 5-FU-induced cell apoptosis. Importantly, molecular studies have indicated that the elevated levels of lncRNAFOXD1-AS1 in PC are facilitated through METTL3 and YTHDF1-dependent m6A methylation. In summary, our results underscore the critical functions of lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 in the self-renewal and tumorigenesis of pancreatic cancer CSCs, positioning lncRNA FOXD1-AS1 as a promising therapeutic target for PC.

RESUMO

N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays a role in various diseases, but it has rarely been reported in acute lung injury (ALI). The fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) protein can regulate mRNA metabolism by removing m6A residues. This study aimed to examine the role and mechanism of the m6A demethylase FTO in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced ALI. Lung epithelial FTO knockout mice and FTO knockdown/overexpression A549 cell lines were constructed to evaluate the effects of FTO on ALI. Bioinformatics analysis and a series of in vivo and in vitro assays were used to examine the mechanism of FTO regulation. Rescue assays were conducted to examine whether the impact of FTO on ALI depended on the TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway. In LPS-induced ALI, RNA m6A modification levels were upregulated, and FTO expression was downregulated. In vivo, lung epithelial FTO knockout alleviated alveolar structure disorder, tissue oedema, and pulmonary inflammation and improved the survival of ALI mice. In vitro, FTO knockdown reduced A549 cell damage and death induced by LPS, while FTO overexpression exacerbated cell damage and death. Mechanistically, bioinformatics analysis revealed that TXNIP was a downstream target of FTO. FTO deficiency mitigated pyroptosis in LPS-induced ALI via the TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway. Rescue assays confirmed that the impact of FTO on the TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway was significantly reversed by the TXNIP inhibitor SRI-37330. Deficiency of FTO alleviates LPS-induced ALI via TXNIP/NLRP3 pathway-mediated alveolar epithelial cell pyroptosis, which might be a novel therapeutic strategy for combating ALI.

RESUMO

Herein, we have developed a new method for the synthesis of ((methyl-d3)sulfonyl)ethyne, which is cost-effective and environmentally friendly and can be synthesized at the gram level. As an ideal thiol-yne reagent, it can be reacted with various types of thiols to afford (Z)- and (E)-type vinyl sulfides under different conditions with high selectivity. In addition, it can complete the conformational transition from Z- to E-type products under suitable conditions, and can also carry out further derivatization smoothly. The deuterium content of all products was greater than 99%. The preliminary mechanistic studies support the visible light-mediated radical course, and herein provide a novel and efficient synthetic strategy for the direct introduction of deuterated methyl groups, enriching the methods for the construction of C-S bond-containing compounds.

RESUMO

A radical 1,2,4-trifunctional reaction of thiosulfonate to unactivated olefin is achieved by a migration strategy under mild conditions. In this reaction, the more unstable primary free radicals are in situ generated after the migration of heteroaryl groups in the presence of DABCO. This trifunctionalization of unactivated olefins involves two C-S bond formations and one C-C bond formation.

RESUMO

Sulfone compounds and thioether compounds are two highly valuable classes of compounds, but it is challenging to prepare sulfone and thioether compounds simultaneously and efficiently. Here we report that sulfides/selenides and sulfones can be obtained simultaneously using allyl bromide/benzyl bromide-activated alkyl bromides and thiosulfonates/selenosulfonates using a nickel-catalyzed reductive coupling and SN2 synergistic strategy, which is characterized by excellent atom and step economy, mild reaction conditions, broad functional group compatibility, and excellent yields.

RESUMO

The literature from a long-term fertilization experiment in the Yangtze River Economic Belt from January 1992 to May 2022 was collected, and the data of farmland soil organic carbon were extracted and integrated. Using the normalization treatment and the analysis method of relative annual variation, the overall change in soil organic carbon content in farmland in the Yangtze River Economic Belt under different long-term fertilization measures was studied, and the change differences of soil organic carbon content under three tillage modes were compared so as to judge and analyze the influence of the duration of the experiment on soil organic carbon dynamics. The results showed that under different long-term fertilization measures, the organic carbon content of farmland soil in the Yangtze River Economic Belt in China showed an overall upward trend. The NP, NPK, O, and NPKO treatments all increased the organic carbon content of agricultural soils, with that of the NPKO treatment being the largest. The sole application of inorganic nitrogen fertilizer reduced the organic carbon content of the soil. The rates of change in soil organic carbon content were 0.22 g·(kg·a)-1, 0.24 g·(kg·a)-1, and 0.16 g·(kg·a)-1for dryland, paddy, and water-dry rotation farmland, respectively. Additionally, the relatively rapid increase effect of organic carbon brought by the O and NPKO treatments could last for no more than 28 years in dryland soil but could still last for more than 28 years in paddy field and paddy-upland rotation soil. There was some variation in the rate of change of soil organic carbon content between soil types. The average rate of change of organic carbon was 0.25 g·(kg·a)-1for red soils, 0.14 g·(kg·a)-1 for brown soils, 0.19 g·(kg·a)-1 for tidal soils, and 0.15 g·(kg·a)-1 for rice soils. The trend of NPKO>O>NPK>NPK>NP>N was basically maintained for the rate of change in soil organic carbon content. The NPKO treatments were all significantly higher than the chemical fertilizer (N, NP, and NPK) treatments alone. The N treatment showed a reduction in organic carbon content in both red soil and rice soils. Considering the carbon fixation of farmland soil, the combined application of organic and inorganic fertilizers is a more suitable fertilization method in this area.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: We aimed to present the state of the art of CT- and MRI-based radiomics in the context of ovarian cancer (OC), with a focus on the methodological quality of these studies and the clinical utility of these proposed radiomics models. METHODS: Original articles investigating radiomics in OC published in PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library between January 1, 2002, and January 6, 2023, were extracted. The methodological quality was evaluated using the radiomics quality score (RQS) and Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies 2 (QUADAS-2). Pairwise correlation analyses were performed to compare the methodological quality, baseline information, and performance metrics. Additional meta-analyses of studies exploring differential diagnoses and prognostic prediction in patients with OC were performed separately. RESULTS: Fifty-seven studies encompassing 11,693 patients were included. The mean RQS was 30.7% (range - 4 to 22); less than 25% of studies had a high risk of bias and applicability concerns in each domain of QUADAS-2. A high RQS was significantly associated with a low QUADAS-2 risk and recent publication year. Significantly higher performance metrics were observed in studies examining differential diagnosis; 16 such studies as well as 13 exploring prognostic prediction were included in a separate meta-analysis, which revealed diagnostic odds ratios of 25.76 (95% confidence interval (CI) 13.50-49.13) and 12.55 (95% CI 8.38-18.77), respectively. CONCLUSION: Current evidence suggests that the methodological quality of OC-related radiomics studies is unsatisfactory. Radiomics analysis based on CT and MRI showed promising results in terms of differential diagnosis and prognostic prediction. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: Radiomics analysis has potential clinical utility; however, shortcomings persist in existing studies in terms of reproducibility. We suggest that future radiomics studies should be more standardized to better bridge the gap between concepts and clinical applications.

RESUMO

Biochar is widely used in agricultural production practices as a soil conditioner that can be used both alone and jointly with chemical fertilizer. However, there are few studies on the effects of the combined application of biochar and phosphate fertilizer with different particle sizes on soil and plants. In this experiment, pot experiments were used to study the effects of biochar with different particle sizes on soil nutrients, enzyme activity, and Alfalfa nutrient absorption under two phosphorus levels (according to diameter, the biochar was divided into C1:>1 mm and C2:<0.01 mm). This study showed that the combined application of biochar and phosphorus significantly improved soil nutrients, enzyme activity, and Alfalfa nutrient absorption. Among them, the C2 treatment significantly increased the soil available phosphorus content and phosphatase activity (P<0.05), whereas the C1 treatment had a significant effect on ammonium nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, urease, and catalase activities (P<0.05). Moreover, the differences in nutrients and enzymes among biochar treatments with different particle sizes were affected by soil phosphorus levels. At the P0 level, there was no significant difference in ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen contents between the C1 and C2 treatments. At the P1 level, the contents of NH4+-N and NO3--N in the C1 treatment were 24.19% and 18.68% higher than those in the C2 treatment (P<0.05), but there was no significant difference between the C1 and C2 treatments. Phosphorus addition significantly increased the N and P contents of Alfalfa above ground and in the ground (P<0.05), but there was no significant effect on the nutrient content of Alfalfa between different particle sizes of biochar. In conclusion, biochar and phosphate fertilizer can be used as an effective means of soil improvement. In addition, when using biochar for soil improvement, the impact of particle size on soil nutrients and soil enzymes should be considered.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVE: To develop and validate a model that can preoperatively identify the ovarian clear cell carcinoma (OCCC) subtype in epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) using CT imaging radiomics and clinical data. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed data from 282 patients with EOC (training set = 225, testing set = 57) who underwent pre-surgery CT examinations. Patients were categorized into OCCC or other EOC subtypes based on postoperative pathology. Seven clinical characteristics (age, cancer antigen [CA]-125, CA-199, endometriosis, venous thromboembolism, hypercalcemia, stage) were collected. Primary tumors were manually delineated on portal venous-phase images, and 1218 radiomic features were extracted. The F-test-based feature selection method and logistic regression algorithm were used to build the radiomic signature, clinical model, and integrated model. To explore the effects of integrated model-assisted diagnosis, five radiologists independently interpreted images in the testing set and reevaluated cases two weeks later with knowledge of the integrated model's output. The diagnostic performances of the predictive models, radiologists, and radiologists aided by the integrated model were evaluated. RESULTS: The integrated model containing the radiomic signature (constructed by four wavelet radiomic features) and three clinical characteristics (CA-125, endometriosis, and hypercalcinemia), showed better diagnostic performance (AUC = 0.863 [0.762-0.964]) than the clinical model (AUC = 0.792 [0.630-0.953], p = 0.295) and the radiomic signature alone (AUC = 0.781 [0.636-0.926], p = 0.185). The diagnostic sensitivities of the radiologists were significantly improved when using the integrated model (p = 0.023-0.041), while the specificities and accuracies were maintained (p = 0.074-1.000). CONCLUSION: Our integrated model shows great potential to facilitate the early identification of the OCCC subtype in EOC, which may enhance subtype-specific therapy and clinical management.

RESUMO

Low-quality sleep in patients with insomnia is closely related to sleep architecture imbalance and neurotransmitter impairment. Acupuncture may reduce the duration of light sleep and its proportion, increase the time of deep sleep and rapid- eye-movement sleep as well as their proportions so as to modulate the sleep architecture for insomnia. The paper summarized the related studies of acupuncture for improving sleep architecture through regulating serotonin, norephinephrine, dopamine, γ-aminobutyric acid, acetylcholine and orexin; and explored the effects of acupuncture on the neurotransmitters and their specific performance in regulating sleep architecture. It is anticipated that the review may provide the literature evidences of acupuncture for improving sleep quality in patients with insomnia, and the approaches to the mechanism research of acupuncture for regulating sleep architecture.
